Deep-Diving the VectorStat® VS-10

On Tuesday, Rhombus Energy Systems launched its VectorStat VS-10 Linux single-board computer (SBC). Rhombus built the VS-10 for use in a variety of embedded applications, including chargers for electric vehicle (EV) fleets, microgrid systems, and energy storage solutions. It has several attributes that differentiate it from competitive products (see the block diagram below):
- A timestamped, distributed database: Each VS-10 acts as a VectorStat software node, and contains an instance of VectorStat’s fully distributed, timestamped database. The timestamps allow system operators to correlate events across a VectorStat deployment.
- Up to 1TB of secure storage: The VS-10 can support up to 1TB of flash storage. This storage can be secured using the hardware encryption engine contained in the VS-10, making its data completely secure.
- Support for multiple communications interfaces: The VS-10 provides a comprehensive set of interfaces, including Ethernet, USB, GPIO, SAE J1772, CANBUS, RS-232, RS-485, and HDMI.
- Latest-Generation ARM Processor: The VS-10 contains a Texas Instruments AM335x 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, providing significant capabilities to run complex Linux applications.
- Fully Ruggedized: The VS-10 can operate in industrial temperature ranges, and supports both regulated DC power (5VDC) and unregulated DC power (7.5VDC to 30VDC).
These features make the VS-10 perfectly suited to data acquisition and analysis for the most demanding edge computing applications.
