Electric Autos Aren’t the Only Growing Electrified Segment of the Light Vehicle Market

When most people think of electric vehicles (EVs), they think primarily of Tesla automobiles – after all, the Tesla Model 3 was one of the top-selling vehicle in California in 2018. But auto EVs aren’t the only EVs taking off. Earlier this month, Lordstown Motors Corporation acquired GM’s shuttered Lordstown, OH car factory. However, Lordstown Motors, a recent entry into the EV manufacturer pool, will not be building cars at this historic plant – they will be building trucks there. Their first vehicle is called the “Endurance”, and be a pickup truck with four electric motors. They will also build 6,000 electric trucks for Workhorse Group, who has pre-existing orders for these vehicles. Workhorse themselves are building a variety of vehicles, including the C-1000, E-100, and E-GEN delivery vans, the W-15 pickup truck, an electric-powered personal helicopter, and a variety of delivery drones. All of these vehicles will have significant range requirements and with it, large battery packs.

As more and larger vehicles are fielded with greater range capabilities, the need for high-power charging solutions becomes even more important.
